Charlie got his first job at a marina at the ripe age of 14 years old scraping the bottom of boats with a garden hoe, power washers were not invented 50 years ago. He came back to work at that same marina years later as a mechanic. He then worked for Cummins, Cat & Detroit Diesel always with a heavy focus on marine. Just prior to founding Global Yacht Exchange Charlie was a top yacht broker for the past 22 years as a wholesaler buying and reselling over a thousand boats that were dealer/broker trade ins on boats to be purchased. This unique business model has given Charlie extensive broker and buyer experience. He knows what brokers and buyers love and hate. How many people can say they purchased over one thousand boats… probably the same amount of people that can say they sold over one thousand boats. All this has lead to Charlie’s laser focused passion to build a far better new industry standard go to platform for Brokers and Buyers to buy and sell boats without getting completely overcharged with fees and subject to extremely unfair rules that cost most brokers half their income with ridiculous mandates.

Charlie grew up on the New Jersey coast, where time in the ocean — surfing, fishing, and everything in between — wasn’t a hobby, it was just life. That relationship with the water never left, and it’s what drew him naturally to Global Yacht Exchange. Now working directly with brokers and buyers, Charlie brings a genuine passion for the sea to every conversation. If you love the water, you’re already speaking his language. When Charlie was 5 years old, I, (Charlie Abruzzo) took him and his brother Finn fishing. I told them we only have one rule... don't get hurt. I don't care what you do, have fun, just don't hook your brother in the eye.  The boat had a Tuna Tower, not a marlin tower, mind you, a full-size Tuna Tower. Charlie kept climbing up the tower, then down the tower, up the tower, down the tower. I remember thinking if he falls, he's gonna die!  Then I thought…I said only one rule: let him have fun. Of course, Charlie fell from the freaking top! The sound of his body hitting the deck was terrifying.  I thought Oh my God, he's gotta be dead. He jumped up and said, "I DIDN'T GET HURT." He thought he was going to get in trouble for getting hurt.  An adult would have been in the hospital for weeks; this is one tough Irishman!
