SYLVIA is a highly specified Discovery 55 with an automated rig and a lovely light wood interior from 2008. She has been massively updated during this ownership, including new paint, standing and running rigging, electronics, a lithium-ion setup, Starlink, and much more. RCD Status: The yacht conforms with the essential safety requirements of Directive 94/25EC or RCDII (2013/53/EU as appropriate (Recreational Craft Directive) and is categorised A – “Ocean”
Hull, Deck & Superstructure Construction:
- She underwent a full overhaul in 2021 to prepare for ocean crossings.
- Flush forward deck for sunbathing.
- Underwent Safety Inspection ARC2021 and safety inspection by Belgian Naval Authorities in 2021.
- Hull has had new paintjob with Awlgrip HDT (dark blue) by Desty Marine, UK. No maintenance required except for rinsing (new 2020).
- The hull was locally refinished in 2025.
- Saloon windows were upgraded to flush MKII (new 2020).
- Antifouling: InterProtect 2000E basecoat + Pettit Trinidad Pro (65% copper) (new 2023).
Keel & Rudder:
- 9,500kg (20,500lb) shaped lead keel and a depth of 7’3” (2.23m) provides a ballast ratio of 42% providing maximum stability. Bearings serviced 2018.
- Semi balanced large Kevlar reinforced rudder.
